Love note about Erica’s How to Paint Soulful Eyes online course

Can you relate to any of these?

I’ve been there.

When I painted my first dog portrait, I wasn’t sure what I was doing. I had never painted a portrait of a pet before nor had I painted an animal that was so beloved by his doggie parents. But I knew I wanted to learn how to do it, so I asked the subscribers on my small email list if I could practice by painting their animals. From there, I let inspiration guide me which over more than a decade has become a proven and successful process resulting in many happy clients and a long waitlist for my commissions.

What no one told me was that following my true calling in life would also be the most challenging and testing journeys. Over the years, and the many ups and downs, I’ve taught myself how to take care of myself mentally, physically and emotionally for a sustained longevity as a painter to perform at a high level and execute one custom pet portrait after another.

Over the past several years I’ve met and worked with painters with different artistic styles and stories to share. They’ve been beginners to professional pet portrait painters and they’ve put the call out that they want to learn even more from me. If you’ve been guided to this page, I believe you’re one of them.

That’s why I created the How to Paint a Dog Portrait online course

I’ve poured three decades of experience into this nine-module online course designed to give students everything they need to paint portraits of beloved dogs. I take you inside my art studio to show you my step-by-step process of how to paint a realistic custom dog portrait that commission clients love.

Filmed over the entire painting process, this course is more than a painting class or traditional online art learning experience. As well as watching video lectures where I share my full set of acrylic painting skills to create stunning and deeply soulful portraits, this course has been uniquely designed to deliver support for your whole being as a painter to sustain you as a creative whether you do this for your own joy and wellbeing or to become the next renowned custom pet portrait artist.

This course challenges you to level up and expand as a painter and as a human. It’s designed to inspire and touch on all of the facets artists use when we create. It’s gentle and encouraging. Beyond the immersive process of showing every brushstroke and blending move on the palette recorded in real time, this course delivers support for mental-, emotional- and physical health for artists, insight on how to work with clients and healing through grief, for self and others.

Join fellow art lovers in the Peer Love Forums for fun and supportive community, join Erica live for Q&A and live demos in the many Live Group Coaching Calls, and so much more. Enrollment in the How to Paint a Dog Portrait is offered just once per year.

I’m a beginner and Erica taught me so much! She is a great art teacher but it’s so much more than techniques or how to use a brush with her. She gives her all in building you up and supporting your whole artist being so you can thrive as a wholehearted painter! I plan on taking everything she offers.”

LEARN with ERICA ERIKSDOTTER

renowned pet portrait painter

My name is Erica and I paint realistic custom portraits of dogs and cats that grief counselors say help my customers work through losing a pet. My art has been featured wildly in the press including Washington Post, My Modern Met and on national and global television.

I grew up in Sweden as the youngest of three daughters and with a beloved yorkshire terrier named Lucas. I sold my first painting at age 10 but it was the heartache of losing my dog in my teens that kept me away from painting animals for a long time. Instead, I painted large statement pieces and participated in National Juried Art Shows up and down the East Coast. Until one day, a stray cat showed up at my doorstep.

My fascination with her gorgeous eyes had me in the studio soon enough asking my customers and followers: could I possible practice painting pets by using photos of their beloved animals? I was flooded with photos. (For those wondering, yes we rescued the cat and she’s often on my lap in the studio while I paint my commissioned pet portraits).

One of the keys to painting animals is to paint the eyes full of soul, the fur as lifelike as if you could touch it and to capture the true essence of the animal.

I had avoided painting animals for a long time because I knew the heartache I’d feel if I couldn’t get the essence and character just right. What if I painted my darling Lucas, or someone else’s ‘darling Lucas’, but without any soul? Or the eyes didn’t look alive or the fur anything but fluffy and realistic? What if I failed at something so important as honoring the relationship between a human and his or her pet?

After more than a decade of focusing on commissioned work of painting custom pet portraits for customers, I’ve honed my process down to simple and manageable steps and I’m here to guide you with my proven process to make sure you succeed.

With global media coverage and a long waitlist for my custom pet paintings, I believe it’s my artistic responsibility to now help you share your art with the world. I’m committed to helping you expand as an artist using the exact methods I’ve used to paint all my custom pet portraits and share the tools so you can paint with joy and your heart and be paid what you’re valued.

There’s something so special about painting animals that viewers connect deeply with and that evoke so much emotion and healing.

I can’t wait to see you in this course and coach you to finish a pet portrait that you’re proud to share.

“Erica really helped me. I’m very grateful for her knowledge and talent. She gives her all when teaching and sharing. She’s very open, giving person.”

Patti, painter from Canada

  • You’re used to finishing a painting in one sitting with no desire to paint a painting in steps over many sessions.

Is the course right for me if I don’t have much experience painting or ever used acrylic before?2024-01-17T15:39:05-05:00

Oh my goodness my friend, I see you. I’m a self-taught, third generation painter and have taught students with varying levels of painting experience. In fact, one student who had never painted before taking this course received two commissions before she was even finished!

Emily had never painted acrylics before and she sent me this note:

“Before taking How to Paint a Dog Portrait I had wanted to develop my artistic talent into something more than a hobby, but I really had no idea where to start. I knew I had some talent, but I didn’t have the confidence in my ability. Now, I definitely feel more confident about painting overall, and I feel very confident that I can paint an excellent dog portrait! Plus, I booked three commissions before the course was even over and had inquiries on board for more. It is an amazing experience – a whole new life has opened up to me! – Emily Lyman, pet portrait painter

Here’s what another student said:

“I’m a beginner and Erica taught me so much! She is a great art teacher but it’s so much more than techniques or how to use a brush with her. She gives her all in building you up and supporting your whole artist being so you can thrive as a wholehearted painter! I plan on taking everything she offers.” – Angela H.

Here’s what one professional oil painter said about the course:

“I’m a professional oil painter and I was struggling with how to use acrylic paint, particularly when creating a pet or human portrait. After taking How to Paint a Dog Portrait I feel more confident painting pets and I’m more connected to my creativity. The course helped me feel less resistance to starting and carrying through with new projects, and trying things I’m less familiar with doing, which is huge!” – Mandy K.

Remember that the course is backed by a 100% risk-free guarantee and if you don’t feel this course is right for you, I’ll give you your money back. If by 12pm (Noon Eastern U.S. time) on the 7th day since registration you don’t feel this is the right fit for you, show me your completed progress from Module 1 and you’ll get your money back.

I’m a professional painter and I’m worried this workshop is too basic for me?2023-02-07T13:44:04-05:00

No. I’ve taught experienced painters, including professional pet portrait painters and they’ve greatly benefited from my teachings.

“Even though I’ve been a professional painter for 24 years, I found such tremendous value in the course. Yes, I’m more confident, I’ve expanded, and I’ve less fear and resistance. It all stems from a place of feeling supported and nurtured in the course. I’ve also raised my prices considerably because for the first time I actually got innately the talent that I have and its value.” – Michelle H-T

Remember, I offer a 100% risk free guarantee so you can sign up and cancel after the first week if you feel it’s not a right fit.

“I’ll never forget this experience… the positivity that transpired in the course is both outstanding and uplifting.” – Cristina C.

“I loved the live coaching calls! Thank you Erica for all of your guidance and encouragement!” – Mandy K.

“[Erica] teaches you how to get through the ups and downs of getting through a painting with understanding and nurturing motivation…. One of the best features of the course was the live peer sessions where we could meet and learn from the other artists taking the course! It really became a highlight for me to see where we all were in our painting careers in our lives, as well as really learn from each other. There is so much more to painting than just putting a brush to canvas! It helped me so much to learn that whether you’ve just started painting or have been painting for years that everyone has their struggles and high points during a painting.” – Jayne M.T.

“Erica’s way of instruction really works. She’s mindful, gentle, encouraging, motivating and both didactic and experimental. What I specifically liked was her acceptance of each student no matter what place in the course they’ve been at, yet with a gentle encouragement to continue on with their project.” – Olya H.

“Erica was interested in supporting us as whole people. Not just artists who wanted this talent. But, a deeper listening to where we were struggling and how to support us in finding our own two legs to stand on. She was celebrating our successes. That to me is a real teacher.” – Michelle H-T.

“I really enjoyed the community of meeting with Erica and other classmates online. She has a genuine “big sister” vibe — she’s got your back and will not let you give up on yourself or your art. She is engaging and personable, and very knowledgeable about the subject.” – Emily L.

Remember, you’re the driving force behind your success.

Will I speak with or get feedback directly from Erica?2023-02-07T14:02:22-05:00

Yes! While this is not a one-on-one coaching program, I’ll host several Live Group Coaching Video Calls throughout the 9-week live portion of the course so you can immerse yourself into the course material even more, get realtime support from me and your fellow students. This is such a cozy community and the live calls are a favorite among students.

Here’s what one student said:

I loved the live video calls. They kept me accountable. They kept me connected. As I shared my process and my struggles, they became somehow less onerous, lighter and easier to travel along. Erica did a fantastic job of facilitating those calls. She was interested in supporting us as whole people. Not just artists who wanted this talent. But, a deeper listening to where we were struggling and how to support us in finding our own two legs to stand on. She was celebrating our successes. That to me is a real teacher.” – Michelle H-T.
