Maggie's Portrait - original acrylic painting by Erica Eriksdotter, front

It is so perfect it looks like a photograph. Beautiful! – L.M. of Texas

Maggie’s Portrait is an original painting commissioned by a man in Texas whose golden retriever is 11 years old. He shared with me that while she shows her age in some ways, she is very much a young dog at heart. She loves taking her toy out in the backyard and roll back and forth. She throws it up in the air and catches it. Adorable, and I think her sweetness very much comes across in this portrait.

The owner of Maggie is the bird photographer whose photographs I’ve been inspired by lately. I asked for permission to use them as my inspiration for Two Birds on a Wire and Hummingbird Landing for this year’s Art Auction. I think they turned out really lovely. He shots wonderful upclose photos of the birds visiting his backyard. You can check out his site here.

As a background color for Maggie, I wanted to stick with what was in my client’s photos that he sent me, which was taken outdoors. The lovely grass-colored background is soothing and really compliments Maggie’s fur. I adore this combination.  The painting measures 10 x 10 inches (25 x 25 cm) and is painted on a 1.5 inch (4 cm) deep gallery wrapped canvas. All sides are painted with the background color.
