Erica Eriksdotter paints an original painting of a french bulldog

I’ve got mom brain. I can barely remember what day it is but I do remember how to paint and Chunky’s Pet Portrait is a sanctuary.

He is guiding me into what this new season in life is for me. Between spit ups, blow outs, potty training and the Virginia heat wave, painting for me is being in direct alignment with the Universe. At least I got this down. Here, I don’t have to think. Here, I have all the patience. It’s like being inside the magic.

Just like Chunky helped his owner transition from one season in life to the next (as her wife died), he is with us as we transition too: my newborn learning to be a human, the toddler learning to use the potty, me learning to be a mom of two. It’s a new season for all of us – of letting go and mourning what was and embracing the unknown.

Below are a few more photos from the progress.

Some bonds never really leave us.
They simply find new ways to stay close.
