My name is Erica and I paint custom pet portraits that grief counselors say can help my customers work through losing a pet. One of the reasons for the long waitlist for my pet portraits is those soulful eyes. One of the keys to painting animals is to paint the eyes full of soul and that captures the true essence of the animal.

But painting eyes hasn’t always come easy for me.

I avoided painting eyes for a long time because I knew how important they were in getting juuust right. The eyes are the most important part of a portrait and if I couldn’t get them right, why would I even bother?

Week 1: The Materials You'll Need and Why

Erica shares every material you’ll need for this course and gives and gives lessons in why you need each. She provides you with a downloadable supply list, the ready-made sketch to trace and the reference photos you need.

Week 2: How to Create Depth and Dimension

Erica shares how to create depth and dimension with colors. She paints the groundwork for more layers to build upon to capture the essence of an animal. You’ll also learn how to paint the first layer of the surrounding eye area which emphasizes the depth of the eye.

Week 3: Finishing Touches for a Soulful Eye

In this lesson, Erica is pushing past where most amateurs would stop. She blends the sections together, adding more dimension and depth and finalizing the rough surrounding area for a more finished look.
